SunDrops Mental Health App
about.
SunDrops is a wellness app that uses playful, low-pressure self-care practices, emotional design, and gentle AI-powered insights to help users feel better.
challenge.
Too many wellness apps feel like a chore or come wrapped in an overly “zen” aesthetic. I set out to design an app that would make emotional support feel joyful, light, and like something users actually look forward to using.
action.
I am leading the end-to-end design of SunDrops, a mobile app that blends playful self-care practices with emotional design, lightweight routines, and AI-powered insights. Through user research, testing, and preference studies, I am exploring how short, uplifting moments, paired with a friendly mascot and intentional tone choices, could help users build emotional resilience.
results.
The current prototype was described by users as “fun,” “motivating,” and “like my buddy.” Testers responded positively to the tone, usability, and unique features like surprise prompts and AI pattern tracking. The project reinforced how emotional engagement and ease, not just functionality, drive sustained use in wellness products.
final thoughts.
SunDrops is designed to be a light companion in a heavy world.
Though design and testing are ongoing, current usability findings validate the emotional resonance of the app’s tone and its cheerful mascot, Sunny.
SunDrops began as a gratitude journalling app, but through user interviews, competitive analysis and usability tests, it evolved into an experience focused on diverse self-care practices, emotional tone, habit ease, and user resonance. I’m glad to have developed an app that defies existing frameworks, empowering users to design their own joys and build an imperfect, beautifully messy world that nurtures their daily positivity.
The work will continue, but joy, after all, is a practice.
