Visualizing Complexity: Teaching Series
about.
To demystify diffusion‐weighted imaging for college‐entry neuroscience students, I wrote, storyboarded, and produced three videos explaining general diffusion, principal diffusion direction, and streamline tractography.
challenge.
Diffusion imaging is conceptually dense and mathematically precise. Our viewers needed clarity without oversimplification, a narrative voice that guided them through abstract ideas and complex visuals.
action.
I led each phase of production: storyboarding, scriptwriting, and direction. I crafted metaphors (like water flowing through pipes) to anchor theory in everyday experience. I coordinated animations and voice‐over, iterating on pacing until each concept felt intuitive.
result.
Students and instructors alike have since used these videos as foundational teaching tools. Feedback praised their “concise elegance” and the way they made abstract neuroscience feel approachable and even beautiful.
final thoughts.
Education thrives when complexity is met with compassion. By weaving clear visuals, relatable examples, and a calm narrative tone, we can open doors rather than close them.
